Riverview Neighborhood Meeting
June 12, 2007 Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 in the Greek Orthodox Church. Vickie discussed our nonprofit status. Currently the association is a 501(c) 4 and donations are not tax deductible. We are working towards 501(c) 3 status that will allow donations to be tax deductible. There is an amendment in the current bylaws which allows for a designated nonprofit to receive what funds the association has if it becomes insolvent. Although the association has no plans to go under financially, that money would go to Park Friends. We need to have people representing 25 households to vote for the change. Since there weren’t enough at this one, the vote was tabled until the next meeting on July 10th.
There will be board of directors meeting on July 2nd.
Vickie discussed the sidewalk removal on 18th and Boulder. Apparently when the sidewalk (which was in disrepair) was removed, there was no plan to replace it. After several calls to the city, it was replaced to Cheyenne and is a welcomed improvement.
There is an interest in starting a garden club in the neighborhood.
Jack Wing spoke about the success of the Tulsa Tough bicycle race. There were more participants this year than last and the feedback has been positive. The race is planned again for next year.
Lucky Lamons had heard concerns about the Mansion House becoming Section 8 housing. His research determined that 80% of the total occupancy has to be residents 55 years or older and only the 10 efficiency units at $375 are available. He sees no real problems with this.
Also Lucky noted that a building on the east side of 17th and Boulder has been purchased by Masoud Moazami, PhD whose company is called “ETL”. He has met him and thinks he’s a good fit with the neighborhood.
The treasurer reported that there is $1,204.43 in the account.
Anne Pollard discussed the neighborhood block party and has volunteered the McBirney Mansion for one of the last 2 weekends in September. The suggestion was made that an informal day party and an evening paid cocktail reception would make this an interesting event, maybe with a 1920s theme. Sponsorships and volunteers will be needed.
Vickie acknowledged the new “Creek Stickball Park” sign placed recently in the park on 17th and Cheyenne.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:35.
Respectfully submitted,
