March, 2008 MEETING MINUTES
BOARD: Attendees are Ron Miller, Ray Luth, Gary Kuck, Anita Bryant, James Bengfort, Lana Taylor, Kathy Cooper, Jerry Mitchell, Barbara Maxwell
We were saddened to learn of the death of Jim Seawright, project manager for the McBirney Mansion.
We were reminded that the Designer Showcase will be held at the Residence from April 25 to May 19, 2008.
With our neighbor Brad owning a promotional and design company, we decided to consult with him on fund raising ideas such as mugs and other imprintable items.
Projects:
We can get a dumpster from the city once a year.
Create a group of volunteers called "helping hands" to do little things for neighbors who are challenged.
Set up a Blog or forum on our website
Reports:
James is now the Secretary of the Conservation District
Lana said HOW trimmed her trees and did it exactly like she told them to
Ray reported on 501(c)3 status
Ray reported that PSO will install Dark Sky fixtures and offered to donate the reflectors (great cheering was heard) - we are interested in adding the RVNA logo to the fixtures and Main Street funding may also be available.
A recommendation was made that we prepare a RVNA booklet on remodeling and include advise on Dark Sky lighting.
GENERAL MEETING:
Called to order at 7pm by Ron Miller at the McBirney Mansion. Minutes were accepted. Treasury has balance of $1077.42
Old Business:
Ray Luth will resubmit the 501(c)3 application.
Working for plaques was approved
Fund raising ideas included a garden tour as well as an architectural tour. Anita will head the committee with Lana, Ron and Barbara as members
Last call for storm clean-up
House at 411 W 13th Street has been boarded up and will be demolished (yea!)
New Business:
A group reported on the right-of-way clean up project
Brochure: Ralph Cole will take the photographs showing amenities and history.
New development on Cheyenne from 14th to 15th will be 20 condos on 4.5 lots, 3 stories tall. We will post the drawings on our website when received. RVNA requested screening.
Graffiti is a growing problem and was discussed.
Chip Adkins, Coalition President for Historic Neighborhoods introduced himself and spoke about abandoned houses.
Program:
Jerry Mitchell introduced our guest speaker, Robert Shears, with RL Shears Co. 1820 S. Boulder. Robert provided expert advice on landscaping along with an excellent handout and recommendations.
Counselor Maria Barnes was asked to make comments.
